It was no surprise when Beats by Dr. Dre headphones and earphones became immensely popular. It started as a business venture between Monster Cable, Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine. Over the past year, it was able to out grow the sales of any other headphone making companies. How were they able to do this?
Anyone who watched any music videos form hip hop/ RnB genre have seen a multitude of artists using them. It spread like wildfire. As soon as one artist started use them, they all did. Now some even have their own "branch" of the headphones. For example Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber. Because they have become so popular, they have even spread to the sporting world. LeBron James even has his own design called PowerBeats.
Beats cleverly created a air of need for them. Using positive words and booming reviews, people felt the need to buy them even though they can be extremely expensive. One of the main components of the headphones being so different, is the fact that the quality of sound is better than the regular headphones. All through time people have bought products due to the fact they think that it is the best or will give them a high quality result. It's basically what justifies the high price.
Today we see almost every single celebrity using Beats. Whether their Beats are their own design or the other various ones. Even when celebrities are travelling or just looking "normal", we see them using it and we want them. By using the biggest celebrities, it makes them unbeliveably popular. How? Let's take Lady Gaga as an example. Because Lady Gaga not only uses Beats, but she has her own branch of Beats as well (HeartBeats by Gaga). Right there are two different styles. As Gaga has millions of fans (or more commonly known as Monsters), by using the Beats, she's shown to her fans two styles. Now, a lot of fans would then go out and buy one or maybe even both sets of Beats. Her fans then share with their friends and family and so the popularity is spread.
It's so very clearly Bandwagon. It is fair to say that Beats have taken over the industry. They are also used quite regularly as product placement in TV/Movies/ Music Videos.
A brilliant example of product placement is Ellie Goulding's Starry Eyed American version music video. In the British version, there are barely any products shown. The only products per say are what she is wearing. But in the American version on the video (released July 28th 2011), it has become more "Hollywood"-ised. Within the first fifteen seconds, you already see a Mini Cooper as well as the usual Beats.
One could say that Beats headphones/earphones have brought generations together. All over the world, different races and religions of different ages are using Beats headphones/earphones. In the room there are currently four people who are actually using their Beats headphones/earphones.

Beats is still going on a roll. They're pretty much the offical headphone of players ranging from basketball to soccer, and others. And now HP and Chrysler joining up, incorporating Beats technology in their cars and laptops, to try to make money off of the bandwagon effect, and Dre's reputation as the guy behind many hits in the hip-hop industry.
