Euphemisms Article

http://chennaionline.com/Columns/Notes-From-North-Carolina/Political-Euphemisms-Galore/20104027104050.col

This article is very successful in outlining the different euphemisms used on a broad scale around the world about contemporary topics such as demographics and politics, not only listing the euphemisms but outlining them as well. One that in my opinion stood out from the rest was 'Enhanced Interrogation Techniques' which according to the article codes for torturing the detained throughout interrogation in order to make them speak the truth. Words and phrases like these not only portray the importance of words and their effect on the world as a whole however also show a distinct degree of injustice that language has been able to hide from many people of the world.

  1. I agree. And also the euphemism 'Enhanced Interrogation Techniques' uses words with positive connotations such as 'enhanced'. to improve something is always good because you are making it better and more "good"... Therefore it makes the bad idea of torturing people (inflicting pain and suffering) sound less harmful when they use 'Enhanced Interrogation Techniques'.
